Services Overview

Dentistry is defined as the evaluation, diagnosis, prevention and/or treatment (nonsurgical, surgical or related procedures) of diseases, disorders and/or conditions of the oral cavity, maxillofacial area and/or the adjacent and associated structures and their impact on the human body; provided by a dentist, within the scope of his/her education, training and experience, in accordance with the ethics of the profession and applicable law. (As adopted by the 1997 ADA House of Delegates)

At our practice we offer a full range of dental treatment.  As the definition of dentistry above from the American Dental Association (ADA) states, procedures that are beyond the scope of our practice are referred to an area specialist.  So long story short, we treat you the way we would treat our teeth.

Your child should have their first dental exam no later than age 2.  Many problems in adult teeth can be prevented.  Crowding is caused by many reason but environmental influences include disturbances in dental eruption, premature loss of deciduous teeth, interproximal caries in deciduous teeth can be prevented by visiting your dentist.

Drews Dental Services, P.C. strictly meets or exceeds the safety and sterilization guidelines recommended by the American Dental Association, Maine Dental Board and OSHA.  We constantly  upgrade our infection control techniques by attending frequent courses and holding regular staff meetings so as to insure your safety and peace of mind.  Some of the techniques we employ include:

-Wearing gloves, masks, and protective eyewear during each patient examination and treatment

-Sterilizing all instruments placed intra-orally in an autoclave or ultrasonic cleaner for germ free use

-Cleaning and sanitizing each exam room fixture regularly to eliminate bacteria and its development

-Consistently using a contracted sterilization monitoring service to ensure the effectiveness of equipment

-Utilizing safety techniques to prevent cross-contamination by properly disposing of all products that are unable to be sterilized

-Sterilization of all dental hand-pieces

-Covering patient chairs, x-ray units, and light handles with disposable plastic wraps

-Using filtered water supplied to dental hand-pieces and air/water syringes

Veneers- if your teeth are chipped, broken, or discolored, porcelain veneers are a great way to change the color and shape of your teeth.  A porcelain veneer is a covering over the tooth that gives natural color and bridges small gaps.  Veneers can be a great alternative to braces for slight orthodontic problems and provide a beautiful smile in a short amount of time.

Bleaching- Teeth whitening, we use a variety of teeth whitening techniques, including Rembrandt Sapphire, to get your teeth their whitest and brightest. Rembrandt Sapphire the revolutionary in-office process that gets your teeth their whitest in just over an hour.  Our in-home teeth whitening kits are easy to use and great results are achieved in 4 to 6 weeks.   Call our office to learn more about our teeth  whitening options.

Crowns & Bridges- We provide excellent restorative dental care.  If your teeth are damaged or decayed, crowns may be constructed to restore them back to their original form.  If you have missing teeth, a bridge may be utilized.  These restorations are cemented onto the teeth and are referred to as “fixed” dentistry as opposed  to a restoration of missing teeth with a removable appliance or partial denture.

Root Canal Treatment- also known as endodontic treatment is a dental procedure in which the diseased or damaged nerve of a tooth is removed so that the tooth can be saved or restored.  We are typically able to do a root canal, using digital radiography, in one visit.

Bonding- Bonding is covering the front surface of teeth with durable plastic to either change the tooth’s color or shape, or the rebuild broken teeth.  Bonding is similar to veneers, but not as strong, but it is a low-cost way to improve your smile.  Bonding is great for children who have chipped front teeth and for adults who need an alternative for veneers and understand the limitations.

Some of the above procedures are also known as cosmetic dentistry.

We accept most dental insurances and will assist in communicating with your insurance.

Sat Oct 13 09:11:12 EDT 2012

Crooked teeth have been a problem since 50,000 BC according to archaeologists who have found ancient Greek orthodontic appliances-the precursor to today’s braces. When it comes to modern braces, it’s not just kids anymore. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, the number of adults opting for orthodontia is steadily increasing each year. Veneers too are on the rise with more than 1.6 million getting that procedure in 2006. But braces and...
